Interviewing as a pro!

This semester we have started to interview people, not just as to tool to gather information, but to introduce them to our readers. I had the chance to interview Alejandra Costamagna, a chilean writer. At first I was quite nervous but finally I came out with great questions about her writting and her work as a writer and a journalist.

Alejandra Costamagna

I learned that we (journalists) must set the questions and lead the conversation, otherwise the other person will start saying whatever he wants and the result will be awful. Eventually I would like to interview Angela Prieto, the model and Colombina Parra, the singer from “Los Ex”.

Angela Prieto

The fact that as a journalist you can have access to famous people and be the eyes and ears of your readers it’s awesome. Is not such an easy thing to do, but I now I’ll become a great interviewer!

Colombina Parra

Here you can see Larry King in action, one of the best interviewers ever!

In the first video you'll se him talking to Obama, in the second he talks to Victoria Beckham. These shows his versatility.

Journalism – Web Sites I recommend

EJO - The European Journalism Observatory

This project was created by the swiss university Università della Svizzera italiana, located in the south of Switzerland. The site can be explorered in english, german, french and italian. The idea is to contribute to the improvement of journalism quality among Europe and the USA and connect cultures. It developes topics like ethics and political journalism dealing with all you could think is controversial.

This site is also available in many languages and it gathers journalists from all over the world who work for press freedom. They defend journalists imprisoned or persecuted by governments that don’t aloud freedom of speach wich is a human right. The site is constantly updated with imformation about journalists killed or imprisionated.

My last Weekend

Last Friday I had so much fun. I went to Carola's apartament, well, her cousin's. Her house is being reconstructed and in the meanwhile she's living with Alejandra. They had this huge party where everyone were relatives. I spent a lot of time in the balcony, because even though we could smoke inside, it was so hot and loud that having a beer and a ciggy (ciggarette) outside was way better.

On Saturday I was invited to have lunch with Carola's family but finally we had a big barbacue in the night. We ate so much, her parents bought such great drinks, and there were free ciggarettes for everyone!.

Definitively it was one of my best weekends ever! Specially now that the semester is ending.

Tha's Rocío, she sang in portuguese with the help of Mauricio. (at Alejandra's)

Citizen of The Planet

These is a song I trully like. I’m not much of an Alanis Morissette fan but the lyrics and the atmosphere proyected by the sound takes me to another place, or even better, to every spot on earth. I do consider myself a citizen of the planet, or at least I enjoy the idea. “Human” as the only nationality is one of my biggest dreams.

Citizen of the Planet is part of Alanis last album called Flavors of Entanglement. Most pleople don’t know that she isn’t just a singer, she is an actress as well. One of her last appearances was on Nip/Tuck, as a lesbian called “Poppy”.

These are the lyrics and a fan made video I found on youtube.

Citizen of The Planet - Alanis Morissette

I start up in the north
I grow from a special seed
I sprinkle it with sensibility
From French and Hungarian snow
I linger in the sprouting
Until my engine's full

Then I move across the sea
To European bliss
To language of poets
As I cut the cord of home
I kiss my mother's mother
Look to the horizon

Wide eyed, new ground
Humbled by my new surroundings

I am a citizen of the planet
My president is Kwan Yin
My frontier is on an airplane
My prisons, homes for rehabilitating

Then I fly back to my rest
I fly back with my nuclear
But everything is different
So I wait
My yearn for home is broadened
Patriotism expanded
By callings from beyond

So I pack my things
Nothing precious
All things sacred
I am a citizen of the planet
My laws are all of attraction
My punishments are consequences
Separating from source the original sin

I am a citizen of the planet
Democracy's kids are sovereign
Where the teachers are the sages
And pedestals filled with every parent

And so the next few years are blurry
The next decade's a flurry
Of smells and tastes unknown
Threads sewn straight through this fabric
Through fields of every color
One culture to another

And I come alive
And I get giddy
And I am taken and globally naturalized

I am a citizen of the planet
From simple roots through high vision
I am guarded by the angels
And my body guides the direction I go in

I am a citizen of the planet
My favorite pastime edge stretching
Besotten with human condition
These ideals are born from my deepest within

Me, myself and I

Hi to everyone! My name is Sebastián, I’m twenty and I live in Santiago, Chile. I speak french, as much english as you’ll see and spanish of course. I study journalism at Universidad de Chile. Why journalism? To be honest I’m not sure yet. All I now is that at least this semester (my third) I’ll stay and I’ll do my best. By june I’ll consider my options and maybe study theatre in 2009.

What I enjoy the most is probably music, an tv shows. The child in me, still wants to become a singer and actor. I like r&b, gospell, pop and REGGAETON. TV? I Would have to say that Ally Mcbeal was not only my favorite, but a huge influence in my persona. I’m afraid to say that maybe it has something with the way I see love, friendship, and I the way I relate to music.

With this awesome blog I’ve got I expect to stablish contact with people from all over the world ans specially with the friends I’ve made from Switzerland, Australia, New Zeland and Germany.
